WHAT WE DO

Together we transform the lives of low-income homeowners by improving the health and safety of their homes and revitalizing our communities. Rebuilding Together Fox Valley (RTFV) provides critical home modifications and repairs for low-income homeowners, including older adults, people living with a disability, families with children, and active or retired members of the armed services. These services are provided at no cost to the homeowner.

Our services ensure that qualified low-income homeowners live independently in warm, safe, healthy, and dry homes. We also rehabilitate properties that house qualifying non-profit organizations serving our community.

The impact of our efforts extends beyond the individual families and nonprofit organizations we serve, as our work revitalizes and stabilizes vulnerable neighborhoods and communities across the Fox Valley.

We accomplish our mission through four initiatives that include Safe and Healthy Housing, Building a Healthy Neighborhood (BaHN), Fall Prevention, and Community Strong.  Within these initiatives, we utilize impact strategies like National Rebuilding Day, Second Saturdays, and the [Re]Builder Society to accomplish the work.

  • Safe and Healthy Housing - Our year-round program providing home safety modifications and repairs to create a safe and accessible home. Safe and Healthy Housing is the cornerstone of our work and utilizes at 25-point health and safety checklist developed by HUD and the National Center of Healthy Housing to guide our work. A home assessment is completed, determining the health hazards that exist in the home. A scope of work is created to define what Rebuilding Together Fox Valley can modify and/or repair for the homeowners, at no cost to them. If there are modifications and repairs outside of the ability of Rebuilding Together Fox Valley, we will provide a list of funding sources the homeowner can seek additional support through. The Home Modification and Repair Manager will coordinate volunteers and contractors (if necessary) to complete the scope of work in a timely manner.

  • Building A Healthy Neighborhood (BaHN) - The BaHN initiative is a focused effort of Safe and Healthy Housing in a defined neighborhood association, while also fostering social connectedness, training skilled volunteers, and improving the safety of the neighborhood.  Our current BaHN focuses efforts in the West Appleton Neighborhood for a period of three years.  Our goal is to repair 150-200 homes while creating a sustainable home repair volunteer group through neighbors.

  • Fall Prevention - As the population of older adults continues to grow, home modifications are a key factor in enabling individuals to "age in place," or live in the place or home of choice.  An AARP (2010) study found that "more than 80% of people older than age 50 want to age in their own homes for as long as possible."  Our fall prevention efforts entail home modifications like grab bars, lighting, handrails, transfer benches, etc., all of which are designed to help prevent falls.

  • Community Strong - The Community Strong initiative gives local non-profit community organizations the opportunity to apply for repair services and modifications through Rebuilding Together Fox Valley.  The Community Strong initiative aims to cultivate the spirit of volunteerism and community support; the initiative is dedicated not only to the improvement of individual lives but also to the improvement of the quality of life for all in the Fox Valley.

* Please note that mobile homes are only eligible for fire safety installations through this initiative.
