Second Saturdays

  • What kind of project(s) will I be doing?

    • A sampling of projects includes grab bar installation, handrails, nightlights, non-skid treads, raised toilet seats, trip/fall reduction, step/porch repairs, floor installation, light electrical, etc.

  • Why are these modifications and repairs necessary?

    • Every 11 seconds an older adult (65+) is treated in an emergency room for a fall.

    • Every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall.

    • The nation spends $50 billion a year on treating older adults for the effects of falls.

    • 83% of older adults want to age in place.

    • 23%+ of the population will be 65+ by 2030 due to the “Baby Boomers” retiring.

  • Who can volunteer?

    • Anyone with a passion to serve others and a willingness to share or learn home repair skills. Bring your family or group of coworkers out for the morning.

  • How will you keep me and the homeowner safe?

    • So long as Covid-19 is around, we ask that you social distance and wear a mask covering while inside the home. We will provide masks and hand sanitizer to ensure everyone’s safety. The homeowner will be gone and/or isolated to a portion of the home that is not being repaired. We will sanitize the repair area(s) prior to our departure using spray bottles. Visit our Covid-19 Updates page for

  • What does RTFV provide for the day?

    • We will provide the tools, materials, leadership, continental breakfast, and t-shirt.

  • Do I need to be skilled in order to assist?

    • No skills are required only a willingness to learn. If you have home repair skills, be sure to let us know so that we can maximize making the home safe and healthy for the homeowner.

  • Do I need to bring anything?

    • All you need to bring is your energy and a positive attitude. We recommend work clothes (you will get dirty), gloves, and closed toed shoes.
